KUTPM 1st Specialised Graduates
23 December 2004, Dewan Tun Hussein Onn, PWTC, KL.
The University College of Technology & Management Malaysia (KUTPM) conferred
degrees to 154 students during its inaugural convocation held at the Dewan Tun
Hussein Onn, PWTC on December 23rd. These 154 successful graduates were students
who were attached to the School of Information & Communication Technology (92
students), the School of Business & Management (56 students) and the School of
Health Sciences (5 students).
KUTPM became the first ever truly private university when it was established in
July 2001. It brings with itself a wealth of experience of the private education
industry and it aims at continuing the tradition of excellence that was apparent
throughout the development of it affiliated colleges which is the PTPL Group.
Its first enrollment took place in January of 2002 with a total of 160 students
registering for various degree programmes offered through the 3 Schools of
studies. Within less than 3 years since its 1st intake, KUTPM has witnessed a
surge of demand among students who are seeking for a specialised qualification,
whether at the diploma, degree or post graduate level. Its current enrollment of
3000 students is a testimony of its success with the critical programme of study
that it offers.
KUTPM' President and Vice Chancellor Prof Dato Mohd Shukri Ab. Yajid says that
he is proud of this pioneer batch of graduating students as they have shown true
grit and determination in successfully completing their studies.
" We firmly believe in the marketability and employability of our graduates and
that is why all 154 have gained employment either with the public or private
sector. Many have joined long established organizations such as HSBC, EMI
Records, AM Bank, Dunkin' Donuts, 7-eleven, UOB, JPJ and BCB Finance. Some have
even joined KUTPM or PTPL " he said.
Shukri reiterates that, "KUTPM focuses on the importance of specialization areas
in the Health Sciences, Business & Management and Information & Communication
Technology in our quest of producing quality graduates. A good spread of foreign
and local visiting Professors and industrial linkages provide essential
understanding to the global economics, technology, social and geo-political
developments worldwide to our students.
Another interesting feature of our commitment in producing quality graduates is
our International Students Exchange Programme (ISEP) unit. ISEP offers
invaluable opportunities to our students to sample international education at up
to 40 universities worldwide which are currently linked with KUTPM," he
explains.
Confering the degrees to the students will be KUTPM's 1st Chancellor, Her Royal
Highness the Sultanah of Kedah.
