KUALA LUMPUR, Saturday 8 October 2005 – UCSI today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Symbiosis International Education Centre (SIEC) of India to promote academic and student abroad programme between the two institutions.

Signing on behalf of UCSI was the President and Vice Chancellor of UCSI, Peter T.S. Ng, while Dr. S.B. Mujumdar signed on behalf of SIEC as its President and Founder Director.

The man himself, Dr. Mujumdar is an outstanding person with big dreams to create symbiotic relationships between students from different countries. He initiated Symbiosis, which has emerged as an oasis of learning, a sanctuary for sharing knowledge, a center of excellence not only for academics, but every activity that takes its students a step closer to become a world citizen (see accompanying story on Symbiosis).

According to Ng, the MoU was another milestone in the history of UCSI. "We will be able to work closely with our counterpart in India on promoting cooperation in education and services to the community through an international sharing of students and knowledge," he said.

"The parties will develop linkages and collaborate in areas which include among others the exchange of students and faculty members between the two institutions."

Dr. Mujumdar himself is accompanied by Mrs. Swati Chaudhari, who is the Director of Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning (SCDL).

Also known as Symbiosis University, SIEC was established in 1971, primarily to promote world understanding between Indian and foreign students through education. It runs 27 academic institutions ranging from Kindergarten to Institutes for Postgraduate Studies in Management, Mass Communication, Medico Legal Systems, Foreign Languages and Information Technology.

Located in Pune, the cultural capital of Maharashtra, India, SIEC is an educational complex of international repute with a university status. The student strength of SIEC is about 20,000 students from over 32 countries.
